Frequently Asked Questions What does a Notary Public do?
The usual and customary notarial functions include: ~ Administering oaths and affirmations. ~ Taking affidavits and depositions. ~ Receiving and certifying acknowledgements or proof of such written instruments as deeds, mortgages and powers of attorney. ~ Demanding acceptance or payment of foreign and inland bills of exchange, promissory notes and obligations in writing, and protesting the same for non-payment.
Acceptable Identification In order for any document to be notarized, the signer(s) must have acceptable photo identification. The following are acceptable: ~ Current and valid Driver's License issued by any US State. ~ Current and valid US Passport or foreign passport stamped by the US Immigration and Naturalization service. ~ US Military ID. ~ Current and valid photo identification issued by any US Governmental authority (includes states and territories).
The following will not be accepted as identification: ~ Social Security card. ~ Credit/Bank cards. ~ Temporary driver's license. ~ Driver's License without photograph.
